Asking how people prefer to be recognized is an important one. Some people prefer recognition behind closed doors and are embarrassed by public recognition. Others want the team or organization to know and find that validating. A third group feel verbal recognition is "blah, blah blah" - if you like my work, show me the money. It can be useful to ask which form or recognition the new hire prefers - public, private or some form of compensation or time off.
Yes, I love this share, too. Grateful to start this new "fully alive in practice" part of the column. And I hope you feel invited to contribute in the future, too.
And I have a question for you, Michelle, may I?
When you add hobbies, interests, is the idea to get more texture on the person? What if I like macrame or something that you find weird. How does that play itself out? I feel like I veer away from hobbies unless it's volunteered but I don't know why that's true. So I'm curious what you think?
I guess i've not thought about it that deeply. I've not come across anything weird yet but then i'm eccentric myself. Just want to get a 3D perspectuve rather than 2D and it helps me.

(hope that didn't make you feel put on the spot as much as me being deeeeeply curious and comparing notes).
Great to be curious !
Grateful to see this! Putting the amazing concepts you share with us into practice is very powerful. Thank you as always!
