Thank you for this piece Nilofer! As a shy and introverted Indian girl growing up, I struggled most of my life with what could make me distinct because i so desperately wanted to fit in. Respect in my culture was deferring and mimicking others, especially elders. Many people would say "I love your energy" when I started my career and I was actually uncomfortable with them saying that !! I thought belonging was fitting in and now I know its about standing out. Now I know my energy is something only I can bring to the table and it's something I can embrace. And when I showcase it, it lights up other to do the same.

I am catching up on my reading, and this @work jumped out at me. I just had a discussion with my boss about how will I stack up with the others on the team when it comes time for performance evaluations. I won't have enough "er" to be a high performer. That's my fear. And here you are, reminding me to look at the value I bring I am some (space) one. And I value bringing that out in others. Thank you. Again.
