Just a brilliant article and OMG, every post is powerful as part of this platform but this one!! spoke directly to challenges I have had with my work org.

Indeed I designed a bespoke job role based on value I am bringing today, both within and outside of my narrow job title, yet I was met with the reply "that role doesn't exit yet"!

My learning was to NOT try and show horn my Onlyness into the outdated structure but to USE my privilege to make my desired impact outside of my work org which is work in progress whilst still delivering value internally.

Thank you so much for this post, so so helpful and clarifying today.

I'm so glad this practice spoke to you, Garry and happy Sunday.

"That role doesn't exist yet" is definitely one response, but I so wish they had said something like "how can we get you there", or even, can we get you 80% there. There's so many choices to create instead of negate.

But regardless of *their* response, this process is so clarifying, and a good tool to return to. Glad we added this "in practice" column.

Which reminds me, what practice would you add on, pile on for learning how to be one's own expression?

Great question. A key practice that I am practicing more and more is "what is my body telling me?" in situations where I feel agitated or unsure, but increasingly at any time. the more I get comfortable including my bodily reactions to my thinking, the more I make more Onlyness-aligned decisions. Still work in practice but on reflection this is happening more and more and the more I trust this, the more intuitive I seem to b.e.

I remember a few months ago, a therapist reminded me my needs matter. That they are not negotiable, not meant to be appeased but met. Ever since then I've been doing a similar practice, thinking what is it I need here? Because only when I honor my own needs can I serve from that spot only I stand. Thanks for sharing your practice, Garry!
