Paul here. Happy Sunday!
Nilofer and I are super excited to gift to the @work community, The Tiny MBA.
We think of what we do as “being here for you.” This is a column about how to make work suck less, so you can be and become more.
So today, we're excited to share something worthy of that mission: a new book by author Alex Hillman that is chock full of nuggets of wisdom that will help you be better @work, no matter where you are in your career journey.
Here’s an image of one page/idea I loved, which I’m sharing because it applies to so many situations we all face in building things when we work.
As Nilofer said in her introduction to Alex’s book, his approach to thinking about work and business isn’t just a “Tiny” MBA; it’s more of an anti-MBA.
We’re not opposed to degrees around here, but we do want to challenge constructs and constraints that are outdated. To offer some counter-programming. This book is like a Zen koan — you can flip through it quickly to glean meaning, or stay on one page for hours and work through how it changes everything you thought you knew. Better yet, do both.
What Onlyness and Tiny MBA have in common is that instead of a top-down hierarchy, we create community. Instead of demanding top-dog behavior, we are building ways for everyone to belong. So that we can all add the value only one can, onlyness.
As Nilofer wrote in her introduction to Tiny MBA, “Alex and I want you to use this book. Not as an answer. Definitely not as ‘The One True Answer.’ But use this book to spur your own thinking, to make smart choices.”

Nilofer and I heartily endorse Alex’s book. This offer isn’t random. We’re not selling your information or marketing to you in any way. Well, duh, we are marketing. We are marketing an idea we think matters. Because we believe it so matches the Onlyness framework that underlies this column, which is why we want to give you this gift.
